‘Utsuroi (移ろい) – The Shape of Space’

'Utsuroi (移ろい) - Ma no Katachi (間の形)' 'The Shape of Space' Created in 2026, this work is part of my newest body of work, continuing my exploration of materiality, balance and the quiet dialogue between form and space. Organic shapes appear to float across the composition, some defined by colour, others only by their delicate contours and textures. Their placement creates a subtle rhythm in which the spaces between the forms become as important as the forms themselves. The work draws from the Japanese concept of Ma (間), the interval, pause or space between things. Rather than emptiness, Ma is understood as an active presence: a space that allows elements to breathe, relate and find balance. Through a restrained palette of indigo, oxblood, earthy ochres and muted green, 'Ma no Katachi - The Shape of Space' reflects my continuing interest in simplicity, materiality and the poetry found in quiet relationships.
