'Utsuroi (移ろい) - Éclipse' 'Eclipse' Created in 2026, this work is part of Utsuroi (移ろい) - Poetry of Materials, my newest body of work exploring materiality, balance, transformation and the quiet beauty of things in transition. Éclipse began as a drawing in my sketchbook, directly inspired by the solar eclipse visible over Europe in August 2026. A fleeting celestial moment became a simple succession of forms: appearing, diminishing, disappearing and returning. Deep indigo gradually gives way to oxblood red, while the spaces between each form create their own rhythm. The composition reflects the Japanese notion of utsuroi (移ろい): the subtle passage from one state into another, and an awareness of the beauty found in impermanence and change. Like an eclipse itself, the work exists somewhere between presence and absence, light and shadow, fullness and emptiness. Translated from the intimacy of the original sketchbook drawing into a small edition on Hahnemühle paper, Éclipse preserves the simplicity and immediacy of that first gesture.
